Myrtle Beach with Kids

Family Fun in Myrtle Beach

Does your ideal family vacation include enjoying an ice cream cone on the boardwalk? Would your family consider shark teeth a treasure worth digging for? Do you like to play a themed game of miniature golf? Head to Myrtle Beach, where you’ll find everything you need for the perfect family vacation. From immersive museum experiences to nature-forward adventures, there’s always something new to see on the Grand Strand.

Feel Like You’ve Traveled the World Via Themed Mini Golf

Let the excitement of themed miniature golf courses add laughter and friendly competition to your family getaway. Whether it’s your first time on the course or an annual tradition, there are 50 courses around Myrtle Beach to keep things fresh year after year.

Experience civilizations of the past on the Cancún Lagoon Adventure Golf course at Paradise Adventure Golf, complete with waterfalls, hieroglyphics, and a 50-foot Mayan pyramid, which you can’t miss along the highway. Catch a view of a 40-foot volcano during on course set to tropical music at Hawaiian Rumble Minigolf, the birthplace and host of the U.S. Pro Mini Golf Association’s Masters Championship. Or savor the joys of childhood and “never grow up” at Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf, full of pirates, animated crocodiles, caverns, and a 15-foot smoking skull.

Experience — And Take Home — Nature

With so many things to see in Myrtle Beach, it’s easy to forget to spend a day in the sand. The Grand Strand is known for its abundance of shark teeth. Teeth from tiger sharks, bull sharks, and lemon sharks are the most common in the area, though you may discover even more rare species. Get up early before other visitors arrive at the beach, or plan your search around the tides for your best chances of finding these uncommon treasures.

If you want to catch more than just shark teeth, head to Myrtle Beach State Park. This quiet, green space offers reprieve from the buzz on the beach, complete with a nature trail, fishing, educational opportunities, and — of course — breathtaking ocean views.

See the Beach From Above

For more fun near the beach, head to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk®. Here, you’ll find iconic SkyWheel® Myrtle Beach, where you and your family can take in panoramic views of the Grand Strand from almost 200 feet in the air. Each private, fully enclosed gondola offers a safe experience, complete with 3–4 revolutions.

The boardwalk is also home to Ripley’s museums, a zip-line adventure, and oceanfront shopping. Kids will be sure to enjoy a trip to I LOVE SUGAR or MadMyrtle’s Ice Creamery for a sweet, refreshing treat. And if all the excitement leaves you hungry, there’s plenty of options for a family-friendly meal, from pizza to fresh seafood and classic favorites.

Learn and Play at Local Museums

Need a break from the sun? Head to Broadway at the Beach for a bevy of family-forward museums and experiences. Among the most popular is Ripley’s Aquarium, featuring a 340-foot glidepath that winds through a shark tunnel swimming with sea turtles, colorful fish, and very large sharks. During your visit, you’ll enjoy up-close encounters with jellyfish, eels, and penguins, complete with educational and behind-the-scenes experiences.

You may recognize WonderWorks by its iconic upside-down building. This unique “museum of the mind” offers immersive experiences, such as life-size bubbles, hurricane-wind simulators, and zero-gravity “training” in an atmosphere that caters to kids and adults alike. If you want to stay active, there’s also a ropes course, zip lines, and laser tag.

For younger children, you can also consider a trip to EdVenture Children’s Museum. Older children will enjoy spotting celebrity look-alikes at the Hollywood Wax Museum or classic cars at the Wheels of Yesteryear.
